KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 01

Östervallskog/Björkenäs to Ed

Distance : circa 90 km

Duration: 5 days



This tour will take you from Björkenäs (Ostervallskog) to Ed, from below Töcksfors crossing large lakes.

The way leads through the Östen, the Töck, the Foxen and at last the Stora Le.

On this tour it makes sense to look at the weather report for the planned time and to notice the wind direction.

The way partly leads directly along the Norwegian border.

However, unfortunately, the way is a little overcrowded within the main vacation season since the major tourism companies bring lots of people to the area.


Unusual features:

In Töcksfors you will have to transport your boat over land outside the season. (about 2 km on a street.)

Groups of more than 5 persons must use the Dano resting places!




KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 02

Östervallskog/Björkenäs to Bengtsfors

Distance : circa 90 km

Duration: 5 days



This tour will take you from Björkenäs (Ostervallskog) to Bengsfors from below Töcksfors crossing large lakes.

On this tour it makes sense to look at the weather report for the planned time and to notice the wind direction.

The way leads through the Östen, the Töck, the Foxen and at last the Lelång.

Distance : circa 90 km

Duration: 5 days



This tour will take you from Björkenäs (Ostervallskog) to Årjang from below Töcksfors crossing large lakes.

Årjäng to Dals Långed

Distance : circa 60 km

Duration: 3 days



The tour from Årjang to Dals Långed leads you over the Västra Silen into the Svärdlång. It is a trip through marvellous landscape partial lined by very rugged rock faces. It takes you to the lake Laxjön and to Dals Långed .


Unusual features:

Groups of more than 5 persons must use the Dano resting places!

There are good climbing possibilities below Årjang directly at the water.

Sillebotten to Dals Långed

Distance : circa 60 km

Duration: 3 days



The tour from Sillebotten to Dals Långed starts at the public swimming area in Sillebotten.

From there it goes over the Östra Silen into the Västra Silen. Then you will paddle through the Svärdlång. It is a trip through marvellous landscape partial lined by very rugged rock faces. Finally you will reach the lake Laxjön all the way to Dals Långed .


Unusual features:

Groups of more than 5 persons must use the Dano resting places!

Extremely charming and various landscape !




KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 06

Sulvik to Åmål

Distance : circa 90-100 km

Duration: 5 days



The tour from Sulvik to Åmål starts in  Älgafjorden and is a very varied and interesting trip.

It takes you through the gigantic Glasfjorden into the Soljeflagan and from there to the Stömmeflagan and the Björnoflagan . Then comes  the Byälven where the water finally has something like current.

The Byälven  leads into the Gillbergsasjön, a lake of about 4 km length which is completely grown over with reed except for a shipping channel.

You will pass by the village Nysäter.

Food can be bought in Nysäter and the Vikingacenter in Nysäter is worthwhile a visit .

The trip carries on through the Byälven into the

Harefjorden up to  Säffle.

Säffle is one of the youngest towns of Sweden and is worthwhile a visit. Close to the water all big Supermarkets are 

represented as well as Banks .

There is an old sluice in Säffle which can be used during the season. Outside the season you must call there a day before arrival so that the sluice can be used.

From there you paddle again through the Byälven into the Byviken which is a part of the Vänern.

At the end of the tour you paddle along the coast of the Vänern with its small rock islands to Åmål.

Åmål is a beautiful little old town one should take a little time to visit.

Very interesting and suitable also for beginners.

KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 07

Svanskog to Åmål

Distance : circa 80 km

Duration: 4 days



This tour starts almost at our front door. The trip from Svanskog to Åmål is interesting and various.

From the Östra Svan you will paddle into the Eldan. From there it goes through the Aspen and then you will be following  the little river Lillälven. Then comes the  Byälven where the water finally has something like current.

The Byälven  leads into the Gillbergsasjön, a lake of about 4 km length which is completely grown over with reed except for a shipping channel.

You will pass by the village Nysäter.

Food can be bought in Nysäter and the Vikingacenter in Nysäter is worthwhile a visit .

The trip carries on through the Byälven into the Harefjorden up to Säffle.

Säffle is one of the youngest towns of Sweden and is worthwhile a visit. Close to the water all big Supermarkets are 

represented as well as Banks .

KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 08

Edane to Segmon

Distance : circa 65 km

Duration: 3 days



The tour from Edane to Segmon starts at the  Värmeln .

The tour leads over the Värmeln through a very scenic area into the Borgvikeälven.

Through the Borgvikeälven you will reach the village Borgvik.

There is an ICA supermarket in Borgvik.

From there you paddle into the Borgviksjön and after that into the Grumsjön. The passage through the Slottsbrosundet with his little islands is very beautiful.

You will be passing the city Grums coming into the Åsfjorden, which is actually a little bay in the lake Vänern.

You follow the Vänern at the shoreline southward. Right before  the island of Knipan in the nature reservation you go westward over the Trångsundet into the Kyrkebysjön to Segmon where the journey ends.


Unusual features:

Very interesting and suitable also for beginners.

You will have to check weather and wind conditions carefully when paddling on the Vänern !

Finding a resting place for the night is easy and  many islands offer ideal places there.



KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 09

Ekennäs to Köpmannebro

Distance : circa 80 km

Duration: 5 days



The tour from Ekennäs to Köpmannebro starts in Ekennäs at the Vänern .

The tour leads you all the time directly along the shoreline passing hundreds of small rock islands.

The tour takes you through a gigantic bay from Ekennäs past  Åmål to Köpmannebro shortly before Mellerud.


 Unusual features:

The tour has to be compared with a tour on the sea

depending on the wind.

The Vänern is after all Europe's biggest lake with 100 km from north to south and up to 60 km from  west to east.

You should pay attention on wind and weather conditions on

the Vänern. Especially with canoes because they are more vulnerable to wind than kayaks.

For this tour kayaks or folding kayaks definitely are recommendable.

This tour is very suitably for kayak sailing also.

Finding a resting place for the night is easy and  many islands offer ideal places there.

As a tour without a Guide the tour is only suitable for advanced canoeists.



KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 10

Ekennäs to Årjäng

Distance : circa 160 km

Duration: 9-10 days



The tour from Ekennäs to Årjang starts in Ekennäs at the Vänern.

The tour leads all the time directly along  the shoreline past hundreds  of small rock islands.

The tour takes you through a gigantic bay from Ekennäs past  Åmål to Köpmannebro .

From Köpmannebro you paddle underneath the E 45-bridge

into the Spången in the Svanfjorden .

Then you go westward between the island Björkon on the left side and Ängholmen on the right side into the Trasken.

On the Trasken always toward the west till you come to a

narrow passage  into the southern part of the Östebosjön. You follow the lake in a northerly direction and paddle into a lake also  called Spången.

From the Spången via a sluice you get to the Övre Upperudshöljen.

There you reach the village Håverud where you can have a

break and refill the stocks. The village Håverud is located

on the north western shore.

Over a sluice you reach the Åklång which you follow northwards.

In the north is another sluice which leads to a part of the Dalsland channel .

Paddling further and further to the north you come into the Råvarp which brings you to the Sundet.

You follow the lake till you reach the villages Mustadfors and Dals Långed.

 The big lakes of the Dalsland lying north of Dals Långed.

You paddle from Dals Långed in the Laxjön.

You always follow the lake northwards and shortly before the village Skåpaförs to the west you reach the Svärdlången using a short transport over land.

You always follow the Svärdlången in a northerly direction.

The Svärdlången is partly lined with rock faces on both sides and offers a change for the eye .

The Svärdlången then leads you into the Västra Silen.

On the Västra Silen always to the north passing by Varvik with its white church all the way to Årjang in the north.

When you have finished this tour, you will definitely know  whether kayak/canoe paddling will be your passion or if you  will only hate it.

You will take, in any case, unforgettable impressions of all sorts of Swedish landscapes home with you.

KAYAK - CANOE TOUR 11

Åmål to Årjäng

Distance : circa 120 km

Duration: 6-7 days



The tour from Åmål to Årjang is a shorter version of the route mentioned in tour 10.

A fact that makes this tour more interesting for canoeists

  since they tend to get problems on long distances over the Vänern according to experience.

The tour starts in Åmål at the Vänern .

The tour leads all the time directly along  the shoreline past hundreds  of small rock islands to Köpmannebro .

From Köpmannebro you paddle underneath the E 45-bridge

into the Spången in the Svanfjorden .

Then you go westward between the island Björkon on the left side and Ängholmen on the right side into the Trasken.

On the Trasken always toward the west till you come to a

narrow passage  into the southern part of the Östebosjön. You follow the lake in a northerly direction and paddle into a lake also  called Spången.
